Foods that help prevent Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men after skin cancer. It is a well-known fact that diets high in saturated fats, like those found in meat and dairy products are associated with a higher risk of prostate cancer. While there is still no scientific proof that a particular diet prevents prostate cancer, men who follow a vegan diet had a 35 percent lower risk of having prostate cancer than those who have a non-vegetarian diet. So, if you want to boost the health of your prostate, try adding these foods to your diet.


A diet rich in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and kale is one the best ways to fend off prostate cancer. These vegetables are low in carbohydrates which have been linked to cancer; they are also rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals that can prevent cell changes which can lead to cancer.

A study in the European Journal of Nutrition found that men who eat 3 servings of carrots a week are 18 percent less likely to develop prostate cancer. Carrots, pumpkin and winter squash are rich source beta-carotene, a carotenoid that is converted to Vitamin A and has antioxidant properties and antioxidants, as we already know are good for health.

The traditional Western diet has a lot of omega-6 fatty acids but not many omega-3s. Having a healthier balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids may help prevent the development and progression of prostate cancer.


While the research linking eating habits and prostate cancer is still in its formative stages, there is enough evidence to suggest that altering your diet can greatly reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
